Overview

This one day course aims to enable participants to gain a greater knowledge and understanding of adult perpetrators of child sexual abuse and patterns of offending. To also develop understanding of how sexual abuse may affect children and young people, and to help participants to develop the necessary skills to intervene effectively.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the training participants will have: 

  • Refreshed their knowledge concerning definitions of abuse and the concept of significant harm
  • Reviewed different types of adult sex offenders and patterns of offending
  • Gained understanding of the difficulties of disclosure for children and young people who have been victims of child sexual abuse
  • Examined the implications of the abuse for the children victim, for non-abusing / protective parent/carer and for other family members using knowledge and understanding about child sex offender behaviour and the process of grooming
  • Considered the interaction between a sex offender and child protection professionals
  • Examine the implications for child protection decision making within the context of local and national legislation, policy, practice and procedures including reference to risk, safety, contact and issues to consider when considering the viability of family reconstruction
  • Recognise how the relationship based practice model of social work applies to Child Sexual Abuse
