By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:-
- Describe what is meant by the term neurodiversity.
- Discuss what is now known about autism and ADHD, including prevalence, differing profiles, diagnostic criteria and presentation.
- Explore the potential differences in social communication and interaction experienced by autistic children.
- Describe why some autistic children may be repetitive in their words and actions and may find it hard to consider hypothetical and abstract concepts.
- Understand the process of sensory integration including the difference between hyper and hypo sensitivity
- Understand strategies to help minimise anxiety.
- Become familiar with the strategies to facilitate concentration and focus.
- Understand impulsiveness and how best to help children manage this.
- Explore the importance and role of empathy and positive regard when working with neurodiverse children.
